Is your job killing you?
Are you too busy?
5 clues you may be working too hard.
Almost every person I know is busy. Often too busy. On a treadmill with no off button.
Busy comes at a cost, and often leads to a your world feeling like it’s spinning out of control. And then it bleeds into the other areas of your life.
What is the difference between ‘busy’ and ‘out of control?’
It’s all about finding the right tension in your life.
I’ve been on the line and I’ve crossed many times
Thankfully, I’m much better at it now because I have a regular meditation and mindfulness practice.
But I would say this is a serious issue that can have long term effects
If your out of control for too long, you get burnout or even sick.
Here are 5 signs I’ve learned to recognize if things are heading in the wrong direction
1. You’re afraid to take your foot off the gas pedal.
Have you told yourself you can’t take any time off? That it’s just too important to slow down right now?
That is crazy making! You are at war with time. You can’t make more of it.
And the more you work with this and of “inner frantic “ the less effective you become.
We always need to understand what drives these irrational fears to slow down. Chances are that when you look, you’ll find the dread that life will pass you by. Fear of missing out.
Fear usually drives the belief you can’t slow down. Anytime fear is in the driver’s seat, you’re going to crash the car.
If you feel like you’re too busy to slow down, you’re too busy.
2. Are you doing more and producing less?
One sure sign is this: lots of activity and very little productivity.
Some people work massive amounts of hours but produce less than other people who know how to pace and regulate themselves, so they end up being much more productive,.
Lots of activity does not equal productivity.
One sure sign you need to readjust is when you are frantically doing too much but seems to have little to show for it. Does this sound familiar…staring at a computer screen when you just should walked the dogs or had a little nap, or just hung out with your loved ones. The world and all it’s troubles will still be there in the morning.
The best ways to cure low productivity is to work with less tension, not more.
Try it.
3. Do I work at home or do I sleep at work?
We live in interesting times but being connected everywhere all the time comes with drawbacks
Work used to be something you went to and came home from. Now, thanks to smart tech, work is everywhere 24/7.
When the lines between work and leisure are blurred, then there is trouble brewing.
Change that. Set up some boundaries.
Work when you work. Play when you play. Rest when you rest.
And when you’re not working, turn the notifications off on all your devices.
4. Have I become overly sensitive…too almost everything!!!
One sure sign you’ve crossed a line is that your reactions to things around you and within you are starting to become a little over the top:)
It feels like your ether complelty numb or totally raw.
Your emotions are signposts. You must be mindful and bring compassion to yourself.
It’s rare that is to find busy people who can also be mindful. This takes work but the benefits are astounding.
5. When did it all stop being fun?
Remember when life felt fun?
If that feels like a lifetime ago you may be tempted to believe it can never be fun again.
Not true
Sure, life is hard. But just because it’s hard doesn’t mean it can’t be fun.
Just turn your lips up and smile. Notice how different a mail makes you feel.
When you’ve lost perspective, you’ll notice you lost that joy of living
Recalibrate.
When your heart and mind are speaking, take good notes and slow down.
The life you change will be your own.
